Smoking weed can be a fun experience to come across at some point in life. In addition to its many medicinal uses, cannabis has been known to be used recreationally for a very long time in our history now. Whether its for recreational use or medicinal use, weed is nice to be able to smoke sometimes. For someone who has been smoking for about 10 years now, I have become accustomed to all that weed has to offer. Today we’ll be getting into how and what cannabis is and how to use it safely.
What Exactly Is Cannabis?
Cannabis is a non-chemically uniform drug that is native to both Central and South Asia. It is used for either recreational, medicinal or traditional use. Cannabis can be ingested many different ways, by smoking, vaping, eating, drinking. This is a plant that grows naturally from the ground and is apart of God’s green earth. In most Caribbean countries it can be found growing wildly, such as in Jamaica; they grow it right out of their own backyards or it can be seen growing along the streets and roads. Tetrahydrocannabinol also known as THC is the main component in weed. There are other factors as well such as CBD, CBG,CBN. To learn more about those, you can read about the other cannabinoids in my other blog post on this site.
How Is Cannabis Smoked?
Cannabis can be ingested in many different ways. The method most commonly used in smoking; majority of cannabis users will smoke cannabis whether it’s out of a spliff (joint), bong, pipe or any other accessory. For most users, the most common way to smoke is by a rolling a joint. Another very effective way is by a bong/pipe. Smoking a joint, through a bong, or even vaping: these methods will get you high the fastest. With the THC going directly to your brain and through your blood stream, you will be sure to feel the effects immediately. If you were to take an edible that would take a while longer around 30 min-1 hour. The THC needs time to break down and be digested into the blood stream. After smoking it is recommended to NOT DRIVE for about 4 hours after consumption. Even if you feel like you’re good to go it is still best to wait. For edibles its best to wait around 8-12 hours before driving.
How Should You Start Off With Weed?
For anyone that is new to anything you should always start off with small dosages. Start with something that is less potent and stay with that for a while. When you feel like you can handle something more potent then slowly start increasing the potency and work with that. Find what is best for you, whether that’s Indica, Sativa or Hybrid. I am an indica user, some might not like indica because it makes them feel to tired, but jokes on them I’m always tired so it doesn’t affect me. Others like sativa because it gives them energy and creativity. Not everyone can do sativa though because some people have reported that it makes them feel paranoid, but don’t worry not everyone is like that. Some find therapy in using hybrids which is a cross between indica and sativa so you can get the best of both worlds.
How And Where Can You Get Cannabis?
So you can get cannabis from dispensaries that are around you if you are the legal age of 19+. Any local dispensary that is around, you can go to and speak with one of the bud tenders and narrow down the right weed for you. For medicinal purposes you would go to a doctor to get a prescription for it. Usually when you are using it for medicinal purposes, you will receive something called a Medical Marijuana Card; and that will allow you to get medicinal weed. To get that you would either go to a clinic specifically for weed or you can go into a dispensary and speak with a bud tender to find out what you can use.
What Is The Legal Amount Of Weed You Can Have & Where Can You Smoke?
In Ontario the legal amount to carry on your person is 28g. When you go into a dispensary, when on the way to checking out; there will be a limit stopper that will stop you from going over the legal amount. This is to ensure that you’re getting what is legally allowed and to keep up with the safe usage of weed. When travelling around with weed, it is best to keep it in the trunk of ones car, no where around where a driver and passenger can easily access it. It must stay sealed and put away. In Ontario; you can smoke just about anywhere that has a sign that says you can smoke. You can smoke while walking outside but it is critical to not smoke anywhere close to schools or playgrounds so that children aren’t around.
